Business Intelligence Platform Configuration Settings

Legacy Business Intelligence

The Business Intelligence Platform (BIP) provides web-based, ad hoc reporting capabilities built upon BusinessObjects XI. The main interface for accessing and running reports is called InfoView.

When creating or modifying reports, a tool called WebIntelligence is used. This tool supports two interaction modes: Java Report Panel and HTML Query.

The default interaction mode, Java Report Panel, requires a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) browser plug-in from Sun Microsystems. Versions 1.4.2_xx, 1.5.0_xx, and 1.6.0_18 (or earlier) of the Sun JVM are supported.

To determine the version of the installed virtual machine, select Tools > Sun Java Console to open the Java Console dialogue box. Version information appears at the top.

HTML Query mode uses dynamic HTML only and does not require the Java browser plug-in. To use HTML Query mode for report authoring, change the default mode in User Preferences within InfoView.

The Business Intelligence Platform uses one ActiveX control, MSXML 5.0.  For details on required ActiveX settings, see Security Settings.

Business Intelligence 4.2

Business Intelligence (BI) 4.2 is an upgrade from Legacy Business Intelligence and Business Intelligence 4.1. Compared to Legacy Business Intelligence, the new BI platform provides an updated user interface, new features, and architectural changes.

If clients migrated to BI 4.2 from Legacy Business Intelligence, these significant improvements were introduced in BI 4.1 and are also available in BI 4.2. For more information about these improvements, see the PeopleFluent RMS Business Intelligence 4.1 Release Notes and the PeopleFluent RMS Business Intelligence 4.2 Release Notes.

For browser and Java requirements, see the PeopleFluent RMS Hardware and Software Requirements.
